Rugby Coach Needed

Steve Lowndes has stood down as Rugby Club Coach although he now becomes 1st Team Match Day Manager. Many thanks for all your hard work over the years, Steve, the players have really appreciated it!

As a result the Club is actively seeking a suitably qualified person to become the adult rugby section Head Coach.

This will entail taking training/coaching each Monday and Wednesday evening (7-9pm.) and ideally, but not absolutely essential, to be available on 1st Team matchdays.

Enquiries in the first instance should be made via this website to (Rugby Club Chairman) and/or (Club and 1st Team Captain).

Parkonians and the Pensby Connection!!

From Richie Beckett...

Richie BeckettI am very proud that I spent the bulk of my teaching career at Pensby High School For Boys. I started there in September 1984 and finished in July 2008 when I took early retirement, so 24 years all told; after all I did teach Maths!

Over the years and especially more recently many lads have made their way to Old Parkonians in Holm Lane, Oxton to play their rugby and/or cricket. Some have stayed whilst others obviously have moved on. They came for various reasons some through me, having a parent already involved in the club, their friends or just word of mouth.

We have made them all most welcome and I have to say they have been/are a credit to themselves, their parents, Pensby and the Parkonians Club. Below I list them although I realise there may be some young men i don't know or have accidentally omitted due to a temporary memory lapse. Advance apologies to those concerned! As I have already mentioned many are currently very much involved in the club.

Gary Phillips, Robbie Potter, Graeme White, Matthew Dawson, Craig Whelan, Karl Whelan, Mark McCormack, Andy Smith, Greg Lindop, Liam Evans, Danny Blyth, Rob Marnick, Mike Marnick, Sean Marnick, Ryan Evans, Ryan Flegg, Gareth Thomas, Kiel Williams, Tom Manger, Pete Shone, Tom Winterburn, Mathew Walker, Jay Kirtland, Danny Williams, Neil Gallimore, Sam Stott, Simon Ward, Carl Richardson, Mark Hunt and Chris Clarke.

Current students include Kieran O'Donnell(Year 12) and Dan Berkson(Year 9). I feel sure that there will be more currently playing Junior Rugby. Please let me know!

I am also forwarding this article to the current headteacher at Pensby High School For Boys, Mr Peter Madden. I am keen that he knows how proud we are of the past and present students of the school and look forward to welcoming many more prospective future playing members to our club in Holm Lane, Oxton. We think it is a great club and feel sure that you would enjoy yourself here. Of course this applies to everyone not just past/present Pensby students!!

Yours In Sport.
Richie Beckett. Chairman/Press Officer. Oxton Parkonians RUFC.

Training

Training is undertaken every Wednesday evening at the club throughout the year.

During the season it includes games of touch rugby, ball-handling skills, tackling and general fitness training. The club has excellent training facilities including floodlights for winter training, a scrumage machine and assorted training aids such as tackle bags etc.

Throughout the close season fitness is maintained through a combination of gym work, general fitness coaching and 'friendly' soccer matches.

New members of all age, size & ability are always welcome, for further details contact Gareth Pryce, the Club Captain.
