WELCOME TO THE NEW RUGBY SEASON
The new rugby season commenced for the 1st XV of Parkonians RUFC last Saturday 28th August with a Cheshire Plate match against well known opposition in Helsby at Holm Lane.
The game ended with us gaining a fairly convincing 32-21 victory after being down 21-7 at half time.
There was a very strong wind blowing towards Holm Lane which Helsby took full advantage of after conceding an early Mark Hillan try converted by Terry Williams before scoring 21 points of their own. It was a different picture, however, in the second half with Parkonians taking command with the wind at their backs and scoring further tries through Alan Williams(2), Craig Fowler and Paul Hillan; Terry Williams added a further conversion and a penalty
The league campaign starts for both 1st and 2nd teams this coming Saturday 4th September.The 1st's under the leadership of new captain,Gareth Pryce, have a local derby away at Port Sunlight whilst the 2nd's under the continuing leadership of Richie Peters entertain Ormskirk 3rd's at Holm Lane both games kicking off at 3pm.
Well done to all playing and non playing members alike who have already paid their annual subs which are now due; we look forward other members paying in the near future.
If there any problems about this our excellent Association treasurer, Steve Williams, can discuss the alternative methods of payment with you.
Commiserations to Mike Marnick who sustained quite a serious injury in the 'warm up' game against Caer Borderers and we look forward to seeing you back in action in the not too distant future. A big welcome to Jo Hillan's brother, George O'Donnell, who is our new, and newly qualified too, first aider who will be in attendance at all our 1st team games; many thanks, George.
We will be running a 3rd XV for much of the season provided that we get sufficient numbers on a regular basis. The team will be run by Richie'Our Taff/Funky' Gibbon, Mike Heyward and Simon Dunning. The games will all be friendlies commencing with a home fixture on Saturday 25th September; new players are, of course, very, very welcome!
