Training

Ben Pearson - 1st Team Captain
Peter Hillan ~ ClubCaptain

Training is undertaken every Wednesday evening at the club throughout the year.

During the season it includes games of touch rugby, ball-handling skills, tackling and general fitness training. The club has excellent training facilities including floodlights for winter training, a scrumage machine and assorted training aids such as tackle bags etc.

Throughout the close season fitness is maintained through a combination of gym work, general fitness coaching and 'friendly' soccer matches.

New members of all age, size & ability are always welcome, for further details contact Peter Hillan, the club captain.

u7 and u9 Tag Rugby

Tony Burton coaching Tag Rugby

We are now running Tag Rugby training for under 7s and under 9s. Tag rugby is a fast-moving, non-contact game suitable for boys and girls to play together.

We are now running sessions on Sundays for 1 hour from 11 o'clock.

Qualified coaches Tony Burton, Martin Varley and Mark Hillan aided by Ian Westwater run the session, with around 25 young enthusiasts regularly turning out to train.

It a a fun morning with tea, coffee and toast provided for the adults and hot dogs and juice for the kids after they've used up all their energy!

Anyone interested in learning tag rugby and joining the training should contact either or .

Mini Rugby

We run a mini rugby section for boys and girls aged from 5 upwards. They are coached by Tony Burton, Mark Hillan and Martin Varley (all qualified level 1 coaches) with assistance from other members.

We need to congratulate Mark Hillan who has applied for and been granted a substantial amount of money from the Your Wirral fund to set the mini section up.

This will be used to buy equipment and pay for other members to become qualified as coaches, also hopefully seeing Old Parkonians coaches going into the local schools to train the children.

If we can bring the children in at  a young age hopefully they will be the Old Parks of the future!

Anyone interested in the Mini Rugby section should contact either or .

Head Injury Survey

From Amy Morrison, University of Edinburgh

I am a sports science student at the University of Eedinburgh and I am currently completing my dissertation which is investigating the effectiveness of scrum caps in reducing head injury in rugby union.

I have written a questionnaire which can be found on the following link:

http://www.surveymonkey.com/s/XT7WVF7

I am looking to have as many rugby players as possible complete the questionnaire - it is a short survey that will only take 5 minutes to complete and I would be very grateful!

Many thanks,
